Welcome to the Doors Module for EBBS Plus by Bruce Murphy.
╔═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╗
║ ║
║ NOTE - This version of the Door Module will ONLY work with the ║
║ MAIN.EXE module with a file date of 12-15-91 or later! ║

╚═════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════════╝
This is a short instruction file on how to set up the DOORS.EXE
module for EBBS Plus. It is very easy to set up, because all
you have to do is copy the DOORS.EXE file to the directory you
are running EBBS Plus from. EBBS Plus will recognize that the
module is present and will run it when the (D) command is
selected from the main menu.
Some notes on setting up the Doors Module:
1) There are a few files that need to be in the same directory
as EBBS Plus. DM and DM.ANS are the menus that display what
door is available. Using these menus (the DM.ANS file
displays a full color ANSI menu if ANSI is selected from the
Main Menu), the user can type the name of the door they want
to access. There is also another included file, called
DOORMENU.DAT, which is another type of menuing display. This
type of menu will allow the user to select a door to run
using a single keystroke. Either method can be used. If you
want to use the regular menu's, just delete the DOORMENU.DAT
file, and the module will recognize the regular menus. If
you leave DOORMENU.DAT in the EBBS Plus directory, the module
will recognize that you want to use the single-keystroke
method of door access. Easy enough, eh!
2) The DOORS.EXE/BAS programs determine the path to the doors
through the EBBSCFG.DAT file (cfg$(58) if you printed out the
EBBSCFG.DAT file with the enclosed config file printing utility).
It is EXTREMELY wise to have your DOOR batch files in a directory
other than the EBBS Plus directory! That will prevent someone
from typing in batch files that are NOT for Door programs and
disrupting your BBS! NOTE: this is only possible if you are
using the regular menu setup. If you use the single-keystroke
menu, you will not have to worry about it.
3) Batch Files - there are two ways you can set up your batch
files for the Doors Module. If you are using the regular
menu setup, your batch files could be named this way:
CASINO.BAT
ANSIGAME.BAT
WAR.BAT
etc......
If you are using the single-keystroke menus, you can name the
above files like this:
A.BAT
B.BAT
C.BAT
etc......
Some sample batch files are included with this package so you
can get some idea how the file is set up. As always though,
refer to the documents that come with the door you will be
using to see how THEY want thier batch file set up.
4) Types of doors - This module writes a file called
DORINFO1.DEF, that is basically compatible with QuickBBS and
RBBS type doors. There is also a conversion program I use
for converting the DORINFO1.DEF file to the standard PCBoard
PCBOARD.SYS file. This program is called QKDOOR25, and I have
found that it will sucessfully convert the DORINFO1.DEF file
to PCBOARD.SYS. If you use this program to run a PCboard
door (PCBoard 14.xx), use this command to convert the file:
QKDOOR RBBS1 PCB14
Also, there is another program I use to insert the Sysop name
into the PCBOARD.SYS file. It is call SYSOPIT. This will
allow a PCBoard door to recognize when you, the sysop, havew
logged into a game. Many time this will release extra
features in the door not available to the general user (and
only to the sysop). Comes in REAL handy sometimes!
I have also found that Mycroft Doors seem to work great with
EBBS. Just make sure you set up a Mycroft door for QBBS and
you should have no problems.
5) One thing you HAVE to be sure of is that the door you are
using will detect if the user drops carrier! If the door
does not detect carrier drop, you can expect the board to sit
there all night waiting for more user input. So be sure that
the door will detect a carrier drop! I can tell you from
experience that it WILL happen if you're not careful!
6) DOORWAY - you can also use DOORWAY to run some doors. A
sample batch file is included with this package so you can
see how DOORWAY can be set up to run a door.
That is basically all there is to setting up the Doors Module to
work with your doors and EBBS Plus.
The source to this module is available to ALL registered EBBS
Plus sysops, at no extra charge. The latest version of this Door
Module will always be available on my BBS, The Riverboat,
1200-2400 Baud, 24 hours, 7 days. The number is 818-888-3221.
I also have QKDOOR25.ZIP and SYSOPIT.ZIP available if you can't
locate it elswhere.
If you have questions or improvement ideas, feel free to let me
know by feedback on the Riverboat. You can also leave me mail on
GEnie - leave a message to G.B.JONES. I also occasionally call
Compuserve, and can be reached there at the address of
75345,1462.
Thank you for trying out the Doors Module for EBBS Plus!
